About George M. Carrera, Jr.
With over 20 years of experience in patent law, both in-house at pharmaceutical companies and medium to large private firms, George M. Carrera, Jr. assists clients regarding their intellectual property in the chemical, pharmaceutical, biotech, and life science arts.
George is actively involved in preparing and prosecuting U.S. and foreign patent applications in the pharmaceutical, nutritional, food science, and allied fields. He advises food, beverage, drug, nutritional supplement, probiotic, cosmetic, medical device, and biotech companies regarding patentability and helps clients develop and maintain patent rights through the management and maintenance of patent portfolios.
George’s technical background includes more than 15 years of research experience in pharmaceuticals, agrochemicals, and polymers. His core area of expertise is in organic chemistry, including proficiency in synthetic organic methodology. George has authored or co-authored numerous scientific articles in the synthetic organic and medicinal fields and is a co-inventor on seven U.S. patents.
George’s practice incorporates high-level scientific and technical analysis to provide clients with ways to identify and develop their IP assets. He also employs excellent writing skills as an advocate for the firm’s clients.
George’s outside interests include family trips with his wife to the East Coast to spend time with his granddaughter. At home in Chicago, George volunteers on the music and worship team at his church and enjoys reading classic fiction and history.
